Firehouse

I have 2 things that I wanted to talk about in reguards to firehouse. A firehouse is the housing for the firemen on duty. They are there day and night while on duty. I owe my local firehouse a big thanks for their quick response not once but twice this year!!! The first time was a stove fire. I was talking to Kelsey on the phone while shopping at Sam Moon's. Not 5 minutes later, I got a call from a panicked daughter. She said that all the kids were outside and they had put the fire out and the fire department was on their way. What the heck? There was a small fire on the stove from some burned olive oil. My quick thinking kids worked together. 2 put out the fire and another one got the kids out. Ashley and I made a very quick trip home from the other side of town. Every thing was ok when we got there and the mess was cleaned up. The microwave was totaled, but that was fine since it had been broken for over a year.
The second time was a fire alarm problem that set off the fire alarms at 5a on the morning I was leaving for a few days to meet Ashley in Florida. I was running out to the car when the fire truck drove up. I really surprised the fire chief when I told him that I was leaving to catch a plane. I knew that the kids were fine. (We had checked all over the house before I left.) One of the firemen recognized Kelsey from the first time they had come over. All of this happened a few months ago, so this is a belated thanks!!!!

The second is about Firehouse Subs. They are my most favorite sandwiches. The other day, I picked Christopher up from school. We dropped by for a #5 fully loaded (without mayo). We had a great talk and then went to run a few more errands. Christopher asked if I would get some Firehouse subs and come eat lunch with him sometime soon. Wow! I didn't know that freshman thought it was still cool to hang out with mom at school. I am blessed!

Technology and Communication

Sometimes technology still amazes me. I lived before the days of cell phones and instant internet- or any internet for that reason. We have so many ways to communicate with other people.

Take the cell phone- When I was in high school, my parents had no way to get a hold of me. We arranged times and we did lots of waiting- on both sides. When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I worried about getting a hold of Ashley if I went into labor. We were very blessed when he was able to get a pager from Novell. My first cell phone was the brick kind. My BIL Hyrum got a new phone and gave me his phone. It was my emergency only phone and I had about 30 minutes a month on my plan. My next phone was a T-Mobile phone I got when we moved to Texas. That was acquired after having my car slowly die on the way home from the airport on a Sunday afternoon. We were very blessed to make it to a Sears Automotive store. We called our friend who came and rescued us. Now my cell phone is quite small and I miss place it frequently. My cell phone is my friend. We are together almost all the time. It allows me to communicate with those I love best. Ashley travels often. With the phone, he can participate in family prayers with us and keep up with the kids. I know this is possible with just the regular phone. But he is often in different time zones and sometimes we are not at home when he calls.

I love facebook. It is my new addiction. I have chatted with several people this week alone who I have not talked to for years! I also chat with my brother David, who I have talked to on the phone once in the past 10 years. I have also met up friends from high school. How cool is that!

Take a minute and communicate your love and appreciation to someone else today. Have a great day!

Christmas card outtakes

I had this great idea for our family Christmas cards. So I get the kids dressed and take them over to take the pictures. Well, my boys were not cooperative. That is the nicest way to say it. So then, I decided to just get the girls. My girls have a lot of fun together. Here are their silly faces. So how do you think these would look on my Christmas cards?

October

I didn't realize that I didn't post anything in October. We were all very busy in October. Here are a few from the Lone Star Storytelling Festival and the Boosterathon fund raiser at the elementary school my littlest boys attend. I will post some more tomorrow.
